The Business Architecture Summit
Join us for this year’s Summit on December 8: Strategy to Reality, featuring keynote speakers Whynde Kuehn, author of Strategy to Reality: Making the Impossible Possible for Business Architects, Change Makers and Strategy Execution Leaders, and Charles Betz, VP and Research Director at Forrester.
Strategy to Reality will help you understand the importance of business architecture and why you must build this capability and fully embed it as a discipline in your organization. Strategy to Reality will help you find your true north and fight off the forces that will otherwise push you into myopic and small efforts that lead you astray. It will be your manual and an invaluable tool to help educate others and bring them into the fold.

The 2022 Twin Cities Business Architecture Forum Summit will get us back together for the 5th in-person event after 2 years offering annual get-together remotely. We’re excited to see everyone!
This year’s Summit includes three in-person tracks, hosted at Cargill’s office in Hopkins, MN, the Summit includes:
- Two outstanding keynote speeches by industry leaders
- Presentations on strategy, change management, and skills to accelerate your career
- A celebratory happy hour to end our day
- A half-day Pre-Summit with the opportunity to learn from Whynde Kuehn
The morning keynote features Charles Betz, VP and Research Director at Forrester, as he discusses:
- Foundational principles to keep your architecture organization on course and well regarded
- Core architecture capabilities of people, practice, artifacts, and engagement models
- Emerging business architecture trends such as experience, design thinking, and organizational architecture
- 2022 Forrester EA award winners (Blue Cross-Blue Shield North Carolina, US Bank, and Target) and how they are ensuring architecture’s continued relevance
The afternoon keynote features Whynde Kuehne, author of Strategy to Reality. A recognized global thought leader and a long-time pioneer, practitioner, and educator in digital transformation, strategy execution, and business architecture, Whynde Kuehn is the Founder of Biz Arch Mastery, a dedicated online platform and community that helps professionals master the art and science of business architecture. She is also a Fellow with the Institute for Digital Transformation, Co-Founder at Business Architecture Associates, Senior Consultant for Cutter Consortium, and Co-Founder, Vice President, and Academic Chair of the Business Architecture Guild. Whynde is the author of Strategy to Reality, published in 2022. Whynde is exceptionally passionate about assisting mission-driven organizations in succeeding and scaling through the application of solid business approaches. Likewise, she routinely inspires corporate entities to use business as a force for good.

Dean Heltemes is a business and technology executive with diverse, global leadership experience across multiple industries. He is currently the Vice President of Business Architecture at Ameriprise Financial in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he lives with his wife and three daughters. Dean is also an instructor of business architecture at the Institute for Professional Development at Metropolitan State University. Dean and his wife co-founded and own MindStart, a company that designs and sells activity products for persons with dementia.
- Change Management Foundations: The why, the how and the what, featuring Alyssa Atkins, Sunny Ray, and Heidi Dohrmann.
- Alyssa Lehmann is an Organizational Effectiveness leader at Slalom, where she guides clients through transformations and operational excellence strategies focused on enabling, aligning, and developing people. Over the past 15 years, Alyssa demonstrated success in actualizing transformations, operating models and organization designs, culture rebalancing, and team excellence outcomes in clients across agriculture, retail and CPG, financial services and insurance, healthcare and pharma, manufacturing, telecommunications industries. She is certified in the Denison culture methodology, and recently began her journey towards Co-Active Coaching.
- Sunny Ray is a principal consultant at Slalom, specializing in organizational effectiveness with special interests in complex transformational change and portfolio strategy/execution, among others. She’s worked in the healthcare, manufacturing, government, academics, agribusiness and insurance industries. Sunny is an avid lifelong learner and loves to read, think and converse on an array of business concepts. She admits to reading the Business Architecture BIZBOK for fun while on vacation.
- Heidi Dohrmann is a Partner at Lotis Blue Consulting where specializes in building and sustaining high performing organizations. She has extensive experience partnering with clients to design & drive alignment between their business strategy, operating model, talent, and execution – enabling business growth. With over 22 years of experience, she is an expert in partnering with global organizations to address challenges connecting business strategy to operating model to execution – leading to business agility and high performance. Heidi is known for her strategic mindset and value driven approach to solving complex problems – as well as her collaborative style and passion for co-creating solutions with her clients. She has served clients across a broad range of industries including Retail, Hospitality, Energy & Utilities, Luxury Automobile, Healthcare, Multinational Food Manufacturing, Communications & High Tech, Telecommunications, Medical Device, Manufacturing, and Consumer Goods. She is a certified SAFe Agilist, as well as a certified practitioner in Behavioral Insights & Motivations (DISC, CPBA, CPMA).

Todd Sicard, BCBSMN
Todd Sicard has been with BCBSMN for almost 30 years. For the past three years, he’s been a Business Capability Management Director in the Strategy division, where he evaluates the readiness of people, process, technology, data, and metrics to achieve a goal. Prior to that he was an enterprise architect for fifteen years. (And before that was a lot of PowerBuilder and FoxPro!)
Troy Nelson, CareSource
Troy Nelson is an Enterprise Architect III at CareSource, a managed care organization based in Dayton, OH. He is a Certified Business Architect, a Member-at-Large member of the TCBAF Board and an active member of the Business Architecture Guild’s Insurance Reference Model team.
At CareSource, Troy has focused on maturing the business architecture practice within Enterprise Architecture, from re-engineering an externally-developed business capability model using the Business Architecture Guild’s industry reference models, driving the use of capability-based planning to visualize misalignments in investments, standardizing value stream concepts and integrating them into the solution delivery process, establishing an information model and introducing initiative mapping to the annual strategic planning process. As an EA, he supports the Strategic Planning, Complex Health Solutions and Marketplace areas in defining their strategies, documenting business models, crafting roadmaps and packaging the resulting initiatives and investments needed to drive change and accelerate value realization.
Michael Arulfo, UnitedHealthcare
Mike lives to break things! A trained engineer who started programing in junior high school, Mike started his career at 3M Medical
Products working on 3M.com and then at Carlson Marketing Group supporting digital initiatives for Northwest Airlines and British Airways. After the dot-com crash in 2000, Mike became a product development and architecture consultant working with many blue-chip clients, including Mayo Clinic, Target.com and Express Scripts. Mike joined UnitedHealth Group’s Optum business in 2015 as a Big Data Platform Product Manager with Optum Technology. He currently leads blue-chip initiatives in value-based care, digital transformation, financial and green technology as an Enterprise Architect with UnitedHealthcare. Outside of work, Mike loves to dance. He has won four championship titles in West Coast Swing!
